My grandson watches this tape over and over. So I had to watch this tape with him. He is 2 years old.
It doen't make you feel tired to watch even though you watch over and over and over. . .
My grandson was learning the sound of letters. -- sing-along, read-along fron leap frog
After reading the reviews I decided to try this product. I'm glad I did because my son loves it! I don't have a problem with the values - I don't think the stories are meaningful enough to teach anything. You could probably use anything you don't like as a teachable moment (i.e. Was that nice to do? What could he have done instead?) I would look through them first and if you don't like any of the books I think you can exclude them without taking too much away from the program. It's generally a good idea to preview any kids material first just in case!
I think these books are equivalent to the Bob beginning reading books. They use simple words kids can sound out and a few common site words. The videos are short and entertaining enough. My son has asked to watch them every day and has been able to read most of the first book. I highly recommend it! -- Great start
We just got our LeapFrog Sing-Along Read-Along. My children seem to like it. I really have nothing bad to say I'll write back after a few months see if they actually learn anything with it. -- Just Got it
I am such a fan of Leap Frog in general, and this set did not disappoint. It comes with 12 short "books" that match 12 skits on the included DVD. We use them separately - the songs go far too quickly on the DVD to try to read along for my 1- and 3-year old, but we read the book separately and the kids remember enough from the movie to "read" several of the pages to me. We've had the set about two weeks now, and my son, who just turned 3, is already sounding out all kinds of words in his other books.
I love how words are introduced in this series. They start with one simple 3-letter word, and then the characters run along the screen trading out letters to make different sounds. For example, they start with sun, turn that into sub, change sub to tub, change tub to tug, etc. It's definitely helped my son understand how words come together, and the different sounds each letter makes.
Some of the skits are odd, but my kids don't seem to mind. For example, the word sub is used in several of the skits, since it's an easy 3-letter word. In one skit one of the characters sleeps a lot, and ends up taking a nap with a sub (submarine sandwich). He then sleeps in the mud and on a bump, with a pup and a bug. Little weird, but again, the kids are very entertained by the whole DVD.
Overall, it's a great buy, especially if you can find it on sale for under [...]. -- My kids love it!
